WRITE OUT

Write Out is a free two-week celebration of writing, making, and sharing inspired by the great outdoors. It is a public invitation from National Writing Project to get out, create, and explore national parks and other public spaces. The goal is to connect and learn through place-based writing and sharing using the common hashtag #writeout.

The 2026 Write Out theme is Write Where We Stand. It is an invitation to tap into authentic writing opportunities in your place. And celebrating Write Out can be as simple or as complex as your writing project would like it to be. Here are three approaches you might consider:

  • Schedule an October gathering with colleagues—this is a great way to reconnect and to celebrate.

  • Design student-centered and classroom based opportunities—this is a great way to engage teacher consultants and make new school connections. "A Guide for Writing Outside the Classroom" is available.

  • Engage the wider community by creating a public event—this can be a great way to bring on new partners while increasing visibility of your site. A Community Event Planning Toolkit is available.
